The need for a website in South Africa
Why You Need a Website
South Africa's internet usage profile is changing rapidly. Thanks to a bit of competition to Telkom, internet connection has become cheaper, or for the same price you were paying, you are getting a lot more for your money. The use of broadband internet access is increasing rapidly as a result. There are therefore two main growth areas.
More internet users
Firstly, the number of South Africans who have internet access is growing rapidly. There was a 15% increase in the total number of internet users in 2009, taking the total to 5.25 million. At the same growth rate, expected users for 2010 was over 6 million, and 2011 we would be expecting to reach 7 million people with access to the internet in South Africa.
More bandwidth, more time on the internet
Secondly, with DSL, 3G and other broadband connections becoming cheaper, and infrastructure expansion to spread these services, more and more people who used dial up connections are moving to broadband. This means that instead of quickly dialing in, searching the internet, checking their email, and logging off to avoid prohibitive phone bills, they are now permanently connected to the internet.
More access to information
In light of the above, more people are using the internet to browse for products and services in their area.
Let's take an example. If you are looking for a used car, the yellow pages will tell you that Joe Blogs sells used cars, and where his business is located. A search on the internet will tell you the same, PLUS show you pictures of what he has in stock, their prices, mileage, service history, deposit required and monthly repayment figures, etc.
The point is that the internet has become a massively improved version of the "yellow pages", which was pretty much the main source of business/services searching before the world wide web came along.
The internet offers you the opportunity to showcase your products or services, supply vast amounts of information regarding them to assist in purchase decision making or general customer support, and sell them.
Existing or new customers can sit and view this at their leisure at whatever time suits them - your new showroom is always open!
